I understand your view point, but that's what the paper says.
Now to answer your querry, yes human brain is much more efficient, but AI systems can easily defeat humans on specific benchmarks. No one made the claim about efficiency, it was about getting certain level of accuracy. And making a computer use similar level of resource is not the goal of any paper.
What humans are really good at is showing general intelligence and adapting to new scenarios, but not necessarily writing better prompts that are interacting with billion and trillions of numbers.
